As Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, communities are being invited to help shape the future of the Service by taking part in its Shaping Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service Together survey.
Since launching the survey, more than 600 people, including staff members, residents, community groups and partner organisations, have already shared their views.
The survey is helping to inform the development of our Community Risk Management Plan 2040 (CRMP 2040), which will guide how the Service responds to future risks, supports communities and allocates resources over the years ahead. We are encouraging everyone to take a few minutes to have their say and help ensure our priorities continue to reflect the needs of the people and communities we serve.
Since its formation in 1996, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service has grown to protect almost two-thirds of Wales, serving more than 912,000 people across 4,500 square miles through a network of 58 fire stations. As we celebrate 30 years of service, we are reflecting on how far we have come while looking ahead to the challenges and opportunities of the future
Survey findings so far show that respondents place the greatest importance on emergency response, prevention activities and protecting vulnerable communities. Feedback has also highlighted emerging challenges including climate change, flooding, wildfire risk, firefighter recruitment and retention, staff wellbeing, electric vehicle fires and lithium battery incidents.
The feedback has also demonstrated a high level of confidence in the Service, with 96% of respondents reporting that they are either very or somewhat confident in the service we provide. In addition, 82% of respondents believe that the Service represents good value for money, reinforcing the strong support for the work we do.
Over the last year, feedback has informed our understanding of the challenges, risks and opportunities facing both the Service and the communities we serve. As we celebrate 30 years of service and begin planning for the future through CRMP 2040, we want to know whether we're on the right track.
We're asking everyone to take a few minutes to share their views. Your feedback will help us assess the progress we've made so far, understand whether our priorities continue to reflect what matters most, and ensure the future direction of the Service is informed by our communities.
