Wildfire at Rhandirmwyn: Incident Update

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service crews remain at the scene of the wildfire in the Rhandirmwyn area, near Llandovery, as firefighting operations continue for a third day. 

The Major Incident declared yesterday remains in place, with a multi-agency Tactical Coordination Group (TCG) continuing to coordinate the response, support affected communities and ensure a joined-up approach between emergency services and partner organisations. 

Firefighters have worked throughout the night and into today to contain the fire, tackle hotspots and prevent further spread. Crews remain on scene carrying out firefighting operations while closely monitoring conditions across the affected area. 

As a precaution, several residential properties remain evacuated due to the fire's proximity. Agencies continue to work together to support those affected. 

Road closures remain in place around the affected area to support firefighting operations and maintain public safety. Members of the public are asked to respect these closures and follow signed diversion routes. 

Carmarthenshire County Council's rest centre at Llandovery Leisure Centre will remain available throughout today for residents impacted by the evacuation arrangements.

Public Safety Reminder 

As firefighting operations continue in the Rhandirmwyn area, members of the public are asked to: 

• Continue avoiding the affected area to allow emergency services to operate safely and effectively. 

• Respect all road closures and follow signed diversion routes, which are in place to support emergency response operations and public safety. 

• Keep windows and doors closed if smoke is affecting your area and remain indoors where possible. Once smoke has cleared and it is safe to do so, ventilate your property by opening windows and doors. 

• If travelling through areas affected by smoke, keep vehicle windows closed and set air conditioning to recirculation mode. 

• Take extra care when travelling locally, as smoke may reduce visibility on roads. 

• Do not fly drones near the incident, as they can interfere with firefighting operations and pose a risk to emergency responders. 

• If you have a respiratory condition, such as asthma or COPD, ensure you have access to inhalers or any medication you may require. 

• If symptoms persist or do not improve when indoors and away from smoke or ash, seek advice from your GP or NHS 111. 

• Follow updates and instructions issued by emergency services and partner agencies. 

• Call 999 immediately if you see flames or believe life or property is at immediate risk.
