After nearly three decades of dedicated service, Watch Manager Gareth Hands has retired from his role at Cardigan Fire Station.
On Wednesday, January 28th, Firefighters from Cardigan, Newcastle Emlyn and Crymych Fire Stations came together to thank Gareth for his commitment and to celebrate his remarkable 29-year career as an On‑Call Firefighter. During this time, Gareth served across both Cardigan and Newcastle Emlyn Fire Stations, becoming a highly respected member of each team.
Although stepping down as Watch Manager, Gareth is not leaving Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service (MAWWFRS). He has recently been appointed as a Station Manager and will take on new responsibilities within the Service. In his new role, Gareth becomes the Home Fire Safety Manager within MAWWFRS’s Community Safety Department and will also serve as a Tactical Officer, providing senior operational guidance during complex incidents.
MAWWFRS extends its sincere thanks to Gareth for his long-standing commitment and looks forward to the knowledge, leadership and expertise he will continue to bring to his new position.
