On Monday, January 26th, crews from Builth Wells and Llandrindod Wells Fire Stations carried out a specialist training exercise at The Gwalia building in Llandrindod Wells.
The session formed part of Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service’s ongoing commitment to ensuring Firefighters are fully prepared for challenging operational environments.
The exercise focused on breathing apparatus (BA) training, giving Firefighters the opportunity to refine their skills while working in simulated hazardous, smoke‑filled conditions. Crews tested BA equipment and practiced essential techniques such as controlled breathing, navigating confined spaces, climbing stairs, and moving casualties while wearing full protective gear.
Firefighters also strengthened their operational readiness by using thermal imaging cameras, managing hose lines, and following strict safety and communication procedures, including air‑management protocols and emergency actions. Exercises like this play a vital role in maintaining the high standards of safety and professionalism expected across the Service to protect the communities of Mid and West Wales.
