Crucial Crew Marks 30 Years of Teaching Life-Saving Lessons to Pupils in Neath Port Talbot

This year’s Crucial Crew event marks 30 years of teaching crucial life-saving lessons to pupils across Neath Port Talbot. Organised annually by Neath Port Talbot Council’s Community Safety Team, Crucial Crew has become a flagship initiative, educating the next generation in essential safety knowledge.

Held at Margam Country Park, the event welcomed more than 1,500 year 6 pupils from primary schools across the county. Over the course of two weeks, pupils took part in a series of interactive workshops designed to prepare them for the challenges and dangers they may face in everyday life – from personal safety and emergency response to understanding the roles of key public services.

Mid and West Wales Fire Service is proud to have supported Crucial Crew throughout its 30 years. Our teams have consistently delivered engaging fire safety sessions to help young people learn how to stay safe at home and in their communities.

Councillor Alun Llewelyn, Neath Port Talbot Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Housing and Community Safety, said:

“Crucial Crew has been a cornerstone of community safety education in Neath Port Talbot for three decades, and we’re incredibly proud to celebrate its 30th anniversary this year… I’d like to thank all the organisations who gave up their time to deliver such important safety messages to our young people. Their dedication ensures that pupils leave the event better equipped to stay safe, make informed decisions, and understand the vital roles played by our emergency services.”

We look forward to many more years of partnership with Neath Port Talbot Council, as we continue to invest in the safety and wellbeing of our next generations.
